According to Judge Robert Akin, Bordeaux Road, which runs between HWYs 278 and 35, approximately 2 miles east of Monticello (Dead Man’s Curve area) will be permanently closed, today, by the Arkansas Highway Dept., due to the construction of the I-69 bypass.
Around 12:45, Sunday afternoon, this AirEvac LifeTeam rescue helicopter landed on HWY 425 South at Beulah Road, to pick up a 55 year old Monticello man, following a 4-wheeler accident on a pond levee.
This Vietnam era Huey military helicopter landed at Ellis Field, Friday morning, around 11 am.
The chopper had seen military action overseas, before recently being refurbished in Arizona.
The Huey is one of at least 7 that are being transferred to Florida, where they will be re-sold, possible back to another governmental agency, for use scouting fires or other events in the US, or flown back overseas.

The industrial “spec” speculative building, which was built as a qualification for the state’s ACE program, seems to have a local industry that will likely use the structure as part of a long term lease, for warehouse space.

An 18-wheeler from Batesville “threw a drive-shaft”, around 6 pm, near EX-Mart North. shutting down the McCloy & Hyatt Street intersection.
Reliable Towing pulled the big-rig out of the highway, opening up traffice.
MPD, DCSO, and a State Trooper were seen assisting traffic, which was detoured uto North Hyatt.

The Monticello School District is taking sealed bids on a 1990 model 1070 John Deere Tractor Serial # CH4048D002417. The differential housing is broke and repair parts are obsolete. Cynthia Mae Williams, age 39, is wanted by the Drew County Sheriff’s Department for forgery and hot checks.
Williams has a Bradley County address, but is known to be in Drew County on a regular basis.

Bessy’s Frozen Yogurt, located behind the new EZ-Mart on HWY 425 South, in the old Pizza for Less and Baseball Cards, Etc. building is planning on a September opening date.

A Drew County man’s ongoing legal battles took a downturn, Tuesday, when District Judge Luevonda Ross sentenced him to 30 days in jail, for phone calls and FaceBook posts, harrassing his ex-wife, her attorney, and her pastor.
Between 5-7 pm, Sunday, there were 3 diffeent fires burning in rural area of Drew County, Sunday afternoon.
The first blase reportede was in the Valley & Greenill Fire Depts. area. They responded and put out the fire.
Next was a clear cut grass fire alonh HWY 35 West near the Cleveland County line. Rock Springs and Pansy firefighters were paged out to extinguish the fire, and the Arkanssa Forestry Commission sent a plow to keep the hot spots from spreading.
Collins-Cominto’s fire dept. also was busy, battling a barn firem on HWY 35 east.
Our appreciation goes out to the Drew County Firefighters.
A wide variety of “bikes and trikes” were on display, Saturday, as a group of Christian Motorcycle Association members from several communities in Ashley County took their “lunch run,” as they visited Ray’s for their monthly gathering.
Around 6 pm, Friday evening, a tractor fire, spread to the shed where it was parked.
The tractor, shed, a 1969 Ford pick-up, and a trailer were destroyed.
The Monticello Fire Dept. was paged to scene, but the flames had already spread to the rest of the structure.
Around 11 pm, Tuesday, this home at the intersection of Jackson and Shelton Streets was destroyed by fire.
The Monticello Fire Dept. responded to battle the fire, but the home was engulfed when they were called.
