While most folks were home in bed at 4 AM Monday morning, the Monticello Fire Department was responding to this home fire at the intersection of Cherry and Jackson Streets.
Several rooms of the residence sustained damage.
MPD and DCSO also responded to the scene.
MISSING DOG: Male. Great Pyrenees (very large in size). Solid white. Very gentle. His name is Bert, but may not answer to it. Went missing from home in the rural Wilmar area (on Stafford rd between hwy 133, Barkada rd, and hwy 35) about 3 weeks ago.

Around 50 utility trucks and 100 energy restoration workers are currently in Monticello, being staged for the ice storm that is forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

I, Andrea Chambers, of Monticello am announcing mycandidacy for re-election for the position of MonticelloCity Clerk/Treasurer in the upcoming election.
Around 1:30 Friday morning, this Dillard big rig experienced a headlight failure, Causing the driver to slow down, and begin to stop.
Seconds later, the headlights came back on, allowing him to see he was crossing HWY 35, and no longer on I-530.
Since 1 PM, occasional snow showers have been reported in the Monticello area.
No noteworthy accumulation is expected, but still, snowfall is pretty.

Around 3:45 Monday afternoon, a log truck’s load shifted forward, as he applied his brakes while westbound on HWY 278 near the 425 intersection.
The logs shifted forward impacting the cab preventing it from being able to turn .

In an unusual follow-up to the story below, about the burglary of cars on a local church’s parking lot last Sunday night, apparently the theives felt remorse when they opened their collection, finding a study Bible of one of the victims.
Sunday night, Jan 26, as members of Enon Baptist Church on HWY 35 East were leaving their evening services, they began to realize their vehicles had been burglarized, while they were in the service.

Sources have confirmed that the Family Dollar franchise of dollar stores has purchased property in Monticello and plans to open a store here in the near future.
The store will be located between Walgreens and Newman Fixtures on Gaines St.
