imageA total of 20 vehicles, 7 of them big-rigs on HWY 424 S., have either wrecked , rolled over, slid into the ditch, or just got stuck in the ice this morning.

If you must travel, please use extreme caution.

Reliable Towing is shown pulling out their 6th 18-wheeler, around noon.


Drew Central Students Performed During Russell Athletic Bowl & Macy’s Christmas Parade In December

KELLIE AND APRIL2Congratulations goes out to two Drew Central students who performed at the Russell Athletic Bowl and the Universal Studios Macy’s Christmas Parade in December. Senior Cheer Captain, Kellie Moore and Junior Co-Captain, April Vincent received the honor of All American Dream Team at the B2 (B Squared) Cheer Camp during the past summer. Due to receiving this honor, they performed during the bowl game halftime show in front of a crowd of over 51,000.

Early Morning Fire

imageWhile most folks were home in bed at 4 AM Monday morning, the Monticello Fire Department was responding to this home fire at the intersection of Cherry and Jackson Streets.

Several rooms of the residence sustained damage.

MPD and DCSO also responded to the scene.

14-Wheeler Failure

imageAround 1:30 Friday morning, this Dillard big rig experienced a headlight failure, Causing the driver to slow down, and begin to stop.
Seconds later, the headlights came back on, allowing him to see he was crossing HWY 35, and no longer on I-530.

Logs Shift on Load – HWY 278 Closed for Reloading, Late Monday

Around 3:45 Monday afternoon,  a log truck’s load shifted forward, as he applied his brakes while westbound on HWY 278 near the 425 intersection.

The logs shifted forward impacting the cab preventing it from being able to turn .

Willie Bruce Hicks, age 66 of Monticello, Arkansas ;departed this life on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Drew Memorial Hospital of Monticello, Arkansas. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters; Kaesha Hicks and Freida Hick; sons Michael Daniels,and Kenny Daniels. One brother, one sister, grandchildren,and great-grandchildren,and a host of other relatives. Services will be Saturday February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church of Monticello, Arkansas.
