Following Wednesday’s MLive article spotlighting the $60 million rumors circulating the city about the water system improvement project, the City Council quickly called a meeting for Thursday night, to discuss the issue.
Some Councilmembers were familiar with the questions; while others had no idea, until they read the MLive article.
Congratulations to Colin Wall of Little Rock, Monticello native, who won the Willie Nelson autographed guitar raffled by Ward Davis. Davis raised approximately $5,000 through this event and the “Music for Mayflower” event he hosted. The money is donated to Mayflower choir students of Bennie Carol Wade Dunavan, former Drew Central choir director for 25 years, who lost their homes in the April 27 tornado.

Kristi Davis is the new United Way Campaign Manager in Drew County. An Arkansas native, Kristi graduated from University of Georgia, in ’91. She began her 17 year career with United Way in Savannah, GA as a Volunteer Coordinator.
The recent 90 76 ° temperatures inspired some youngsters on South Gabbert, across from Cedar Hill Apartments, to set up a lemonade stand this week, to beat the heat.
Friday night, Herbert Stewart of Bastrop LA, did what many other people do, without realizing how cruel it is.
Wednesday morning around 9:30, the driver of this Kenworth log truck seems to have escaped serious injury, as the loaded truck rolled over, relaxing the cab and pinning him inside.
Nearby logging equipment was used to pull the protective crash assembly away from the back of the cab, so that Monticello Fire and Rescue could use the Jaws of Life to remove the crushed cab. Read the rest of this entry »

James Wagoner, Babe Ruth League Chairman of the board, along with Joe Featherston of the national Babe Ruth board, were in Monticello, Wednesday, for the official contract signing to allow the Drew County Cal Ripken league and Monticello Babe Ruth to host the Cal Ripken Major 60 World Series in August,2015.
During the late evening hours on June 27, Drew County Deputy James Slaughter arrived to Sobriety Check Point that had been set up by Troopers of the Arkansas State Police on Old Dermott Rd.
The Drew County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a theft which occurred around June 22, 2014. It was alleged the victim had five firearms stolen from his home.
Selma, Collins-Cominto, Tillar, and Winchester firefighters were paged out to a 12:30 Sunday afternoon fire at the Selma Fish House.
Following 37 years of employment with the city of Monticello, Pat Nelson wishes to announce that she has retired.

Babe Ruth League, Inc. International Headquarters has announced that the 2015 Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series will be hosted by Monticello, and played August 7-14, 2015.

A Ford Explorer, stolen from a Monticello businessman two weeks ago, was recovered late last week from the Saline River.
The Monticello School District’s Transportation Department was selected as one of six school districts in the State of Arkansas and awarded the Arkansas Association of Pupil Transportation School Bus Safety Award given at this year’s AAPT Annual Conference in Hot springs, this week.
