41-year-old Jerome Terry told Circuit Judge Bynum Gibson he enrolled as a college student in UAM’s hospitality program (using his son’s identity) so that when his son, Jarell Terry, was released from prison, he would have a college education.

As a courtesy to area firefighters, Authorities are asking anyone planning a “controlled burn ” to notify the Monticello Police at 367-3411, Sheriff’s Dept at 367-6211, and/ or Forestry Commission at 367-2050; so that when those fires are reported by members of the public, authorities will know that they are planned “control burns.”

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announces Amber Hairston, a Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher at Monticello High School in Monticello, Arkansas, as the 2014 ACTE Region IV New Teacher of the Year. The ACTE New Teacher of the Year award recognizes CTE teachers with 3-5 years’ experience (at the secondary or postsecondary level) who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers. Alvin Frederick Pamplin

Alvin Frederick Pamplin, Sr., 81 of Monticello, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, Ar surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life.

He was born on August 6, 1933 in Portland, Ar to the late Voyde Vincent Pamplin, Sr. and Sara Thurlar Pamplin. He retired from Union Camp after 48 years, a US Army veteran having served his country for 3 years, and a member of Second Baptist Church of Monticello, Ar.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Frances Juanita Pamplin, one daughter, Linda K. Pamplin, three brothers; Alfred Pamplin, Edward Pamplin, and Voyde Pamplin, Jr., and two sisters: Jannie Hoch & Vera Mills.
Survivors include two daughters: Frances Ann Jenkins of Monticello and Donna Lynn Noble(Billy); three sons; Alvin Frederick Pamplin, Jr., Herman Vincent Pamplin both of Crossett, Roy Glen Pamplin(Tina) of Monticello, three sisters: Frankie Mc Kenzie, Marie Zulpo, Betty Carter; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Services were held Thursday, September 04, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church (Monticello). Under the direction of Christian Brothers Funeral Home 738 East Oakland Street Monticello, Arkansas 71655. (870-367-6441)”Our Family Caring For Yours”
