The City of Monticello is accepting resumes for the seasonal positions lifeguard.
All applicants must be 16 years of age and provide copies of all Life-guarding, First-Aid, CPR Certifications, SS card, and driver’s license.

Katie Harris, senior at Monticello Christian Academy, was recently awarded the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship.
She also received the Leadership Scholarship from the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Harris is an honor graduate of MCA as well as this year’s Valedictorian. In total, Harris has received $18,000 thus far in scholarships.
Members of our local Veterans of Foreign Wars presented a program to MIS 4th graders, recently, with organizational assistance from DAR.

Early Saturday morning, Drew County Sheriffs deputies were called to the scene of a car crash at the intersection of Highway 278 and the Wilmar train tracks.
An unusual sight took place on HWY 425 South, early last week, as a circus carnival was traveling, north, through town.

Interfor Corp. of Canada has announced the purchase of the Price Companies’ “Monticello Sawmill.”
MLive spoke to Price’s Dick Carmical, who told us that the transition should be complete in mid-June.

The Appleberry family of the Tillar Community has been chosen Drew County’s Farm Family of the Year.
The Appleberrys raise soybeans, rice, and corn on 3,400 acres. Some of acreage has been in their family for 74 years. They also raise cattle

The selection was made by the Town & Country Garden Club and presented by the Monticello Drew County Chamber of Commerce director Glenda Nichols.
Drew County Fair Board Lawn Mower Races will be held May 23, at 4 PM, at the faigrounds.
Bring your lawn chairs.
Races start at 4 PM.
Admission is $5.00 /vehicle.
Pit passes are $8.00.
Approximately 30–40 acres of forest land was damaged by a woods fire. The fire occurred off of Miday Rt., West of its intersection with the I-69 Corridor
