Monticello’s East Jackson St. is closed at the bridge, to allow for sewer line replacement.
The project should be completed late today or tomorrow.
The realignment of the lines is being done in preparation for the upcoming bridge replacement project, in the near future.
Around 9:30, Wednesday morning, an eastbound Peterbilt dump truck (from Warren lost its front left wheel, as it was traveling east on Gaines Street.
The loose wheel rolled down the street, approximately a block, before jumping the curb, and striking in Intrepid (likely a total loss) and a Ford pick-up.
The right lane of traffic on Gaines Street was closed for approximately two hours by Monticello Police, waiting on an out-of-town wrecker, as DOT inspected and cited the truck for violations.

The Country Store Restaurant in Selma will be re-opening this weekend, starting this Friday and Saturday, 4:30 to 9:00 pm.
The fish-house received severe fire damage in late June, and has been completely renovated.

Ensign Rodney Shelton Foss was killed in action, Dec. 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor.
His body is buried at Oakland Cemetery.
Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) has announced that it has signed an agreement with Pinsly Railroad Company of Westfield, Mass., to acquire certain rail service subsidiaries that constitute Pinsly’s Arkansas Division, including the local Arkansas Midland Railroad, that serves Monticello and Warren.
The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department currently making additional safety improvements to a half mile section of Highway 278 East, commonly referred to as “Dead Man’s Curve”.

A first appearance hearing was held Monday morning for a 26 year old McGehee man, arrested Saturday for the death of his 33-year-old girlfriend.

Tornado sirens are currently being installed in the Monticello area, including the show areas near the library, hospital, and Old Troy Road water tower.
A total of 18 sirens will be installed, most on their own self-standing towers.
In response to many resident’s questions, The sirens will be tested weekly (silently), and audibly tested monthly or quarterly.
Missing: Daisy, was last seen on Highway 35 West.
