Construction of the new Jackson Street bridge has resumed.
Construction had hit a stopping point, until Centerpoint Energy completed a gas line project that was involved in their bridge construction. With that done, construction can now continue.
The Arkansas Highway & Transportation Dept. held a public meeting, last week at Drew Centraal, which was attended by dozens of local residents.
Design engineer David Baker gave MLive a “virtual tour” of the proposed bypass, using the map drawings on display.
The video shows all road intersections, bridge crossings, and an overpass, which will evantually be added at Old Warren Road.
Kirby Ramos is a 55 year old artist from the Osage Nation. He’ll be at Scissortail’s Trading Post on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, from noon til 5 pm.
He’ll have several unique handcarved items available, signing autographs, and taking pictures. His work is well know throughout Indian Country.
Kirby’s work is also featured at the National Museum of the American Indian-Smithsonian Institute in NY & DC.
At approximately 10:30, Saturday night, Arkansas State Police, Drew County Sheriffs Deputies, and Monticello Police responded to a rollover wreck on Barkada Road, between Tanglewood and Tracy Drives.

Around 7:15 AM, Friday morning, reports indicate 4–6 passengers/driver were injured in a single vehicle accident on Highway 277, in Drew County.
A 37 year old Drew County woman was arrested, Monday, on the charge of “Concealing Birth” which is a class “D” Felony.
At 8 PM, Wednesday evening, the driver of a mini-van was transported to Drew Memorial Hospital by SEEMS, following a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 425 & 278.
She has appealed, arguing that the circuit court judge erred by (1) requiring her to register as a sex offender, (2) engaging in inappropriate conduct during her sentencing trial, and (3) not disqualifying himself from presiding over her sentencing trial (which was held with a jury).

The Club was happy to welcome new player Paula Furlough to Monday night’s game. Club members Margaret Norton, Peggy Chapman, and Lowell Lynde participated in the Hot Springs Village sectional tournament during the weekend of March 27-29. Playing with Bodie Cobb of Keo and Marilyn Watt and Skip Henry both of Pine Bluff, Lynde and his teammates placed first in the A/X swiss team event.
A public meeting was held at the Courthouse, Monday night, where a group of approximately 20 local residents were asked what Drew County needed for the future. The overwhelming answer was jobs.
According to the Lake Village police chief, 4 juveniles were involved in a shooting incident, just before midnight on March 23.
3 juveniles were arrested, and the victim was airlifted to Pine Bluff.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
A public hearing will be held on March 30, 2015 at 6:00 pm at the Drew County Courthouse Courtroom for the purpose of identifying and prioritizing the community needs of Drew County, determining whether an application for Arkansas Community and Economic Development Program (ACEDP) funds should be developed and if so, for what community need.
Tuesday, a local mother of 2 had a bond set for her of $50,000, following her arrest on a warrant for deep burn scalding injuries to her one year old son.
