Friday night, around 6 PM, the Monticello ?Fire Department responded to a house fire, on W. Trotter St.
To emphasize the GoFundMe project to support former Drew County Deputy Jeremy Chapman, MLive is posting the actual video of the shooting (with his permission) to help more people realize the seriousness of the events, that night.
On March 27, 2013 Deputy Jeremy Chapman got ready for work just like any other day.
When he started his shift he knew that there are no routine shifts, traffic stops or calls and that his life could change in a blink of an eye. What he didn’t know is that this day was going to be one of those life changing days.
This friendly fellow was found on Main Street.
Please call 723- 1904 to claim
While Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin was in Monticello, Thursday, he took time to visit with DCSO investigator Tim Nichols, discuss the situation involving former deputy Jeremy Chapman, who was shot in 2013, and is unable to get any assistance from the government agencies.
Lt. Governor Tim Griffin was in Monticello, Thursday, as requested by Governor Asa Hutchinson, as part of his state wide efficiency review dept. of human services.
Griffin is shown here, meeting with local DHS employees.
Governor Hutchinson’s request for parts of Arkansas to be declared a disaster area as a result of severe weather and flooding from late December 2015 through January 2016 has been approved.
Kristiana Tenorio, a Monticello High School graduate (class of 2013), got the opportunity to dance in the Super Bowl 50 halftime show this past Sunday, in Santa Clara, California.
Monticello Police officers joined the search a couple of hours later, and they also were past midnight, working to apprehend the felon, who was a threat to the town they serve and protect. They also put the needs of residents in front of their own.
When Tuesday’s wildfire was reported, our Monticello Fire Dept., along with the Arkansas Forestry Commission, battled the blaze for over 6 hours, as the fire changed directions, as the wind changed several times, in the smoke and fire and fumes.
We need to recognize how valuable our first responders are to our community; keeping us safe, regardless of the threat that they are protecting us from.
John Paul Greer of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, is show here speaking to Penny Vance’s class of Drew Central 8th grade students concerning participation in the Arkansas Scholars Program.
School Districts all across the state are in desperate need of school bus drivers. This is also the case for the Monticello School District.
Having enough route drivers, substitute drivers and trip drivers has become critical. We have fulltime, substitute, and trip driver positions available.
We have qualified personnel that will provide training to aid applicants in obtaining a CDL license including training to drive the bus safely. For more information please contact Danny Lloyd, Director of Transportation @ 870-367-4005.
Children aged 4 – 15 (as of April 30, 2016) can register for youth baseball online at www.monticelloyouthsports.com.
One major change for this upcoming year is the ability for players in the 13-15 year old age group to register on the same website as all other players.
Louisa Smith was the guest speaker at a recent Monticello Lions Club meeting. She spoke about ‘Feed the Kids’. A program that has been in existence since 2006.
Food packs are prepared by volunteers for 150 children each week in Monticello and Drew Central Schools.
This is the winning ticket from the UAM spirit quilt raffle.
If you have the winning ticket, please contact Rebecca Nugent the Director of Student Programs and Activities for any questions at 870-460-1396.
