During further investigation into the Escape of Detainee Evans on September 26, 2024 it was discovered that after being taken off of the recreational yard he was allowed to use the phone before being placed back into his individual cell. Read the rest of this entry »
On September 26, 2024 at 4:02pm Detainee Justin Evans (34) of Crossett was being brought back in from recreation when he proceeded to escape the Drew County Detention Facility. The method of escape was by two doors being propped open as State Inmates were working in the kitchen area. Evans was apprehended and taken back into custody by members of the Monticello Police Department and Drew County Sheriff’s Office at 4:07pm. Evans now faces additional charges of Escape in the First Degree.
The Monticello City Council met in budget committee, Thursday night to discuss the total $7.3 million bids that were received on Tuesday for moving the water and sewer lines out from under Main Street, north and south, and the possible ways to finance the higher than expected costs.
After an hour long meeting, the council agreed to reject both bids, instead of saddling the city with the long-term expense of paying the debt, which was higher than the bids were expected to come in at.
They will likely meet in a special call meeting to pass a resolution to make this official, but they were unanimous in their decision, at this point.
They agreed to have ARDOT mI’ll and pave Main Street, as was previously set out in the Scogin Drive Extension agreement.
The council agreed that the waterlines do need to be moved out of the street, also that the sewer lines are not a top priority, at this point, and to consider other ways to take care of the waterline relocation, in the near future, just not at the current bid expense.
