According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the Arkansas Department of Corrections will again be working in Monticello this week.
Inmates will be working in various areas throughout town. They will trim back grass that has grown over the edges of city streets as well as clean overgrowth, debris and weeds from sidewalks and other areas.
The only cost of the service is providing meals to the inmates and guards. The Mayor’s office provides those meals from the Senior Citizens Center.
The City of Monticello appreciates the staff of the Department of Corrections for their efforts in making Monticello better.

At least a total of 157 mail articles, which she felt had checks inside of them, were stolen, when she was employed as a mail carrier for the United States, Postal Service. No one really knows how many pieces of mail were actually stolen.
Deshazer could have received a maximum of over 1000 years, if all charges were to run consecutively. Her plea bargain will have her served 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years suspended imposition of sentence. Where she must continue making $200 per month restitution payments.
Deshazer paid $5000 restitution, on the day of court.
Seark Miracle League Fall ball starts Tuesday October 3rd at 6pm. We set our fall schedule a few months back and at that time the fair parade had not been scheduled. With that being said, we will play ball this Tuesday night for the athletes who want to play. Plan on joining us at the Miracle League Field at the Monticello Sports Complex at 6pm.
