NAACP Branch #6042 2018 Baccalaureate Ceremony
May 30th, 2018 by SubmittedNAACP local Branch #6042 hosted a Baccalaureate Ceremony on May 20, 2018 to present its local scholarships. Scholarship Chair, Sheena Garrard, reported “It was our goal to provide a scholarship opportunity for 2018 Seniors who attend Dermott, Drew Central, Monticello, and Warren High Schools. The purpose of the scholarship was to encourage student participation in a post-secondary program of study and to relieve a portion of the financial burden. We would also like to thank the NAACP members and community leaders for their generous donations towards this scholarship.
The 2018 Baccalaureate Ceremony speaker was Commander Robby D. Trotter who is a 1989 graduate of Monticello High School. His initial tour of duty was in USS VELLA GULF (CG 72), where he served as Damage Control Assistant and First Lieutenant, completing a FIFTH Fleet deployment in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, while also completing a BALTIC Operations deployment. He then reported to Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO SIX as the Training Officer, completing a FIFTH Fleet deployment with the HARRY S TRUMAN Battle Group. Following completion of his afloat Division Officer tours, he was assigned to Afloat Training Group Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia.
In November 2008, he reported to USS STOUT (DDG 55) and served as Chief Engineer completing a SIXTH Fleet AEGIS BMD deployment. In August 2010, he was assigned to Commander, Amphibious Squadron EIGHT as the N4, Engineering Staff Officer. In October 2012, he reported to Commander, Carrier Strike Group EIGHT as the Future Operations Officer where he completed (back to back) FIFTH Fleet deployments with the DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER Strike Group.
In December 2014, CDR Trotter reported as the Executive Officer of USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) where he completed a Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO deployment which included Black and Baltic Sea Operations throughout the European Theater. In June 2017, he assumed command of PCU PAUL IGNATIUS (DDG 117) which will be homeported in Mayport, Florida. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards) and various unit and campaign service awards.
