Dr. Kokes described Hewitt’s injuries as a gunshot to the upper chest, to the right of the midline, with an oval shape.
The wound also included other material from the gunshot, besides the pellets, described as “particle stippling”.
Both of Hewitt’s lungs, aorta, esophagus, and other organs received severe damage.
He was shot from 3-9 feet away, and most likely “collapsed right where he stood.”
Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Slaughter was called to testify briefly about evidence delivery to the crime lab.
