MPD Finds Stolen Tools, TV, Laptop Before Theft was Reported

In July, Monticello Police received a residential burglary and theft of property call from a resident on N. Chester St.
When officers arrived and heard the list of stolen items, including a Sanyo television, 2 cordless drills, a laptop computer, a battery charger and other items, one of the officers remembered seeing them in a vehicle, earlier that afternoon.
During a traffic stop, that afternoon on a red Ford Focus with no tags, an officers had searched the vehicle. During the search, they found 2 glass pipes in a bag, and arrested the bag’s owner.
The officer also noticed several items in the truck, that later matched the description of the stolen items.
When this occurred, officers located the red Focus, in Spring Brach, stopped the vehicle, and again found the items, some of which were identified by serial numbers and other unique markings.
Zachary Dodd, of Star City, and Hunter Barnett, of Monticello, were arrested and face charges of residential burglary & theft of property over $1,000.
