Man Arrested For Assault on 80 Year Old Victim Says She Assaulted Him 10 Years Ago
July 19th, 2018 by iPhoneA local man, charged with the assault in a local store of an 80-year-old female shopper, was in Drew County Circuit court, Monday.
Mitchell Goodman, age 30, went before Judge Sam Pope, in a plea and arraignment hearing. Mitchell was represented by the public defender’s office.
The court was told that Mitchell had described himself as being on a “higher plane of existence,” and being of “divine providence.”
It was entered into the court record that Mitchell claimed the 80-year-old victim “had thrown (a bodily function) on him, 10 years earlier,” which was unsubstantiated.
The court was also told that Mitchell had not been seeing a professional for any mental disorders. A mental of valuation was set for January. Any further court action will be scheduled after that evaluation.

Mitchell Goodman, age 30, of East Wood Street, was taken into custody, Friday afternoon, by the Monticello Police Department.
He is charged with a class D felony, for the assault on an 80-year-old woman at Walmart, on April 25.
District Judge Bruce Anderson set his bail at $25,000 commercial bond, and appointed a public defender to represent Goodman.
He was also served with an arrest warrant from last May, from District Court.
Goodman was wearing the same orange shirt when he was taken into custody as he was the day of the assault.
An investigator told the judge that the victim suffered severe injuries and was an elderly woman
The prosecutor’s office has been contacted about the possible need of a mental evaluation. More information will be posted on the case, as it becomes available.

On April 25, around 3 PM, Monticello Police received a report of a 2nd degree battery with a victim approximately 80 years of age, in a grocery aisle at Walmart.
The lady describes an unidentified black male striking her face with his fist, knocking her to the floor, causing other injuries.
It was reported the suspect didn’t take anything, but assaulted her for no reason, and left her laying on the floor bleeding, before leaving the area.
The suspect was seen walking in that aisle, wearing jeans, and orange shirt, with a long beard.. His photo was shown above.
The victim was transported to Drew Memorial Hospital and treated for her injuries.
