(Most) School Board Election Questions Answered
July 13th, 2016 by Joe BurgessThe process for filing for school board seat candidates has been completed.
Petitions were turned into the County Clerk by noon, yesterday, with 2 unopposed candidates filing for the 2 open seats in the county. 1 is in the Monticello District; 1 is in the Drew Central District.
Early voting for those positions will take place September 13–19, at 8 AM – 4:30 PM at the courthouse. Since the seats are unopposed, only early voting will be held.
In the Monticello school district, Lee Busby’s seat is up for election. Busby did not seek reelection, since his daughter has graduated.
Dr. Michael Fakouri, a current school board member in a different district, has recently moved, and filed for Busby’s district. Since no one else wiled, Fakouri will assume the new seat, unopposed.
This will obviously leave Fakouri’s current position open. The process to fill that position will have to be researched, before a decision can be made.
On the Drew Central board, Mike Pennington filed for re-election, for the board seat the local residents have trusted him with for several terms on the board.
