More Missing Money – $6,500 – Mayor’s Misappropriation?
August 23rd, 2016 by iPhoneAfter filing a Freedom of Information request, MLive confirmed more missing city money, Monday morning. This time, it was in the amount of $6500 from city funds, appearing to go for entertainment at this year’s Forestry Festival.
Shown here is a copy of a City of Monticello check, written on the general fund account for $6500, made payable to Variety Attractions, who is the agent for John Michael Montgomery (the featured entertainer at this year’s festival).
According to documentation, reportedly included in the file, a local industry agreed to sponsor an unrelated event, at this year’s festival. Notes in the file state that they did not receive payment from the sponsoring industry, so this money was “borrowed” until payment was received.
When contacted, the industry verified that they had sent a check for $5,000 to the Economic Development Fund of Monticello, to fulfill their pledge, supporting the local festival.
Even if the $5000 did go into the appropriate fund, the $6500, from the city’s general fund account seems to have been “misappropriated,”
