Monticello Senior Citizen’s Center Honors Senior Citizens For Their Community Service Hours

The Monticello Senior Citizen’s Center located at 203 Henley in McCloy Park in Monticello recently honored participants who volunteered time for special projects for the Center between May 2012 and April 2013. In recognition of “Older American’s Month”, Drew County Judge Robert Akin presented 42 certificates to the participants on Wednesday, May 29th at the Center.
Volunteers contributing the most hours were: Martha Jenkins in 1st place with 611 hours, Inez Lindsey in 2nd place with 561 hours, Bernice Adcock in 3rd place with 183 hours, Evelyn Mosley in 4th place with 117 hours, Mary Lloyd in 5th place with 98 hours, and the Night Owls Extension Club in 6th place with 62 hours of service. Honorable Mention Certificates were presented to Bettye Kellum, Linda Martin, Linda Nelms, Sharon Wigley, Leo Bridges, and Janie Fuller. The Center’s Director, Barbara Abston, challenged all of the senior citizens present to participate in the program’s new year which began May 1st and will end April 30, 2014.

I think this is awesome! Instead of sitting down and being “retired,” these senior citizens and working to make a positive difference. They have my respect.
