Monticello police officer injured in hit and run
January 29th, 2007 by JeffThe Monticello Police Department responded to calls at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday at Connelley and Gaines where initial reports indicated fights had broken out at the Chocolate Factory.
During officers’ attempts to bring order, Monticello police officer George Strain proceeded to the street to apprehend one of those involved in the fights, Christopher Smith, 18. While on the street, they were both hit by a car driven by McGehee resident Keshia Daniels’, 26, as she left the location.
Officer Strain incurred significant injuries and after being initially treated at Drew Memorial Hospital was transferred to Jefferson Regional Hospital in Pine Bluff. His injuries are not listed as life threatening. Smith was also hit and suffered a severely broken leg. He was transferred to the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock for treatment.
Daniels was arrested in McGehee an hour later for the hit and run.

Jeff, Thanks so much for putting this on ML. The Pine Bluff Commercial didn’t have anything on it at all. Channel 7 mentioned it but with few details. I depend on ML for the latest up to date news. You are doing a great job.
The Pine Bluff Commercial goes to press at midnight, an hour an a half before the incident occurred.
My prayers go to Officer George Strain and his family for a speedy recovery.
Just wanted to stay thanks Jeff for publishing all the details, unlike some other sources.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Strain and his family.
Regardless of when the PB Commercial goes to press, their online edition should have had details of this matter, one would think? Maybe it did, I don’t know, because I don’t visit their site.
It’s a terrible tragedy, and one that Monticellonian’s wanted to know about. Thanks, Jeff.
[…] Officer George Strain returned home Friday after several weeks in recovery at the hospital in Little Rock. He was run over by a patron of the Chocolate Factory as police were attempting to control a disturbance there on January 29. […]
the suspect in this case received a three and a five year sentence to run concurrent. hope officer strain can focus 100% on his personal recovery now. best wishes george!
I guess I miss this early, but as I was rereading this I found a mistake. Christopher Smith was not involved in the fight. If you go ask George, he will inform you of this.
