Monticello 6th grade students raised $4,773 for World Vision, to provide a water well in an undeveloped country.
Principal Jerry Martens is shown in the video swimming across the school pond, like he agreed to, if the students reached $3,100.
Also, 4 teachers agreed to spend Thursday night at school if $3,000 was reached, including Blake Abbott, who spent the night in a tent on top of the roof.

MMS Students “Making a Difference” Program – Final Day – Teachers Set Challenges
March 18, 2011
The 6th graders at Monticello Middle School are participating in a program called One Life to Make a Difference.
The walk raises awareness of poverty and hunger throughout countries such as Haiti. The students asked for donations to sponsor them in a three mile walk to be held today.
Several teachers are pitching in to give them incentives by staying all night at school if they reach $2500, sleeping on the roof if they reach$3000 and Principal Jerry Martens has agreed to swim across the school pond, if they reach $3100.
The money raised will be donated to World Vision in hopes of raising enough money to dig a well so that children will have clean water. Every year thousands of children die from preventable causes such as contaminated water and lack of health care.
The 6th grade students at MMS have realized the importance of doing good for others and one way of doing good is to give to those in need. Kick off for the event began in January and donations are still welcome this morning.
Students will present the check via cell phone call to World Vision this afternoon.
