Midnight Discussion About Lawnmowing Leads to Shooting.
May 18th, 2009 by Joe BurgessSheriff Mark Gober confirmed information, today, about a shooting that took place in the Ladell community, around 12:15, Saturday night.
Jerry Pryor, Jr, was allegedly shot in the in the right leg by Charles Hewitt, age 52, of Ladell. Hewitt was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, by Drew County Deputies.
The shooting reportedly took place at Hewitt’s residence, following a midnight conversation about mowing the yard.
Pryor told deputies that as he was leaving, Hewitt shot him in the right leg, with a 22 rifle.
Pryor’s hand was also injured in an altercation that followed, as he tried to get the gun away from Hewitt.
Pryor was taken to Drew Memorial Hospital by a friend, and then transported to JRMC, by ambulance.
Hewitt is being held at the Drew County Detention Facility awaiting a bond hearing, as of Monday afternoon.
According to Sheriff Gober, the case is still under investigation.
