MHS Forensics & Debate Team Successful
November 23rd, 2016 by Monticello SchoolsSixteen members of the MHS Forensics and Debate Team traveled to the Russellville High School Cyclone Forensics Tournament November 18 and 19. Of the sixteen, twelve earned Excellent Ratings and five earned Superior Ratings in the preliminary rounds. Those earning Excellent include the following: Zipporah Bell in IPDA, Hope Burmeister in Humorous Interpretation, Kevin Davidson in Storytelling, Edward Gregory, Kalyn Knowles and Ruby Rivera in Poetry Interpretation, Lauren Shepherd in Dramatic Interpretation, Mary Emma Simon, Jordan Smith, Kim Toth, and Jacob Underwood in Duo Interpretation, and Nora Saffold in Prose Interpretation. Those earning Superior include the following: Emilee Lawson, McKenzie McClain, and Keeton Orrell in IPDA, Becca Nichols in Prose Interpretation, and Jordan Smith in Poetry Interpretation.
The Duo Interpretation team of Mary Emma Simon and Jordan Smith advanced to the semi-final round of competition and both qualified for the State Tournament of Champions in April. Joining them in qualifying for state are McKenzie McClain who was third place in IPDA debate and the 2nd place speaker in that event and Becca Nichols who made it to the finals in Prose Interpretation, earning 4th place overall. The Reader’s Theatre group earned 3rd place. They performed an original piece written by Assistant Coach Tiffany Tucker. The members of the group were Zipporah Bell, Kevin Davidson, Edward Gregory, McKenzie McClain, Becca Nichols, Keeton Orrell, Ruby Rivera, Nora Saffold, Jordan Smith, Kim Toth, and Jacob Underwood.
The combined points of all competitors earned MHS 3rd place at the tournament. Coaches Christy Armbrust and Tiffany Tucker are extremely proud of all of the hard work and dedication of these students. Their next tournament is December 2-3 at North Little Rock High School.
