MHS Students’ “Prank” Interrupted by MPD – Students Cited, Then Repair the Wreckage
May 1st, 2014 by iPhoneShortly after 10 o’clock Wednesday night, Monticello Police officers pulled up at Monticello High School. When they did, they noticed several students running from the school.
Other students were quickly rounded up in nearby parking lots, and brought to the school.
As other officers and school administration arrived, the decision was made to allow the students to clean up the mess they had apparently made, & in around MHS. Most of the damage was described as “throwing paper and other items around the school and hallways.”
Sources told MLive that no permanent damage was done, and everything associated with the “pranks” was cleaned up to the satisfaction of school administration.
Around 20 students were involved.
All students involved, age 18 and above, receive citations. All students, below the age of 18, received juvenile citations.
No decision has been made by the school system as to how this situation may affect their status as graduates, or other forms of discipline the school may impose.

My first reaction to this is to use the clichè that kids will be kids; however, I cannot do that because of the stupidity exhibited by those students. With that being said, if the school does not allow them to walk at graduation it will be a travesty. The students did not do any lasting damage to the school, they cleaned all of their mess up, and they were issued citations. The punishment should fit the crime and in this case the punishment already has. Taking away the privilege to walk, that these students worked for for the last four years, would be excessive and cause me to call into question the competence of the leaders of the school.
Wouldn’t they have learned from Drew Central High School’s senior’s mistakes last year?
And how did the STUDENTS get into the school? What the buildings locked?
I understand “pranks” are meant to be a joke and since there was minimal damage I sure hope these students will still get to graduate.
Why? Why? Why? This happened at DC last year, and now Monticello this year? Peer pressure at its worst! Lord, I pray for all youth and all others involved.
Lol,i remember in my day someone spray painted the words “BLACK SABBATH” across the back of the school.they had to sandblast it off.i forget who did it but think they were caught.
I think that all students that were involved should hav more punishment than was allowed. That is telling our young people that’s it’s OK to vandalize our school county state and country. Where was the parents of these children. They should also be held accountable for there child actions.
reply to melissa, more than likely some of the students have parents that work for the school who have keys to the front door,
if so,some teachers should be FIRED for not keeping keys in safe place
