MHS Forensics Team Attend State Tournament Of Champions
April 9th, 2014 by Monticello SchoolsCongratulations to the MHS Forensics Team Members who attended the Arkansas Communication and Theatre Arts Association’s State Tournament of Champions. Over 30 schools (700 entries) competed. Monticello can be very proud of these students.
Advancing to finals and their awards were the following events: Finalist – Readers Theatre; Finalist – Prose Interpretation – Jasmine Wilkerson; 3rd place – Duet Acting – Zach Cason & Mary Kate Jones; 2nd place – Mime – Zach Cason, Savannah Reynolds, & David deRueda; and 2nd place – Improvised Duet Acting – Rian Meeks & Joseph James.
Others advancing to semifinals were Becca Stephenson – Prose Interpretation; Mary Kate Jones & Erin Ashcraft – Mime; Erin Ashcraft & David DeRueda – Improvised Duet Acting; and Elizabeth Wilson – Poetry Interpretation.
Some students who did not advance but earned Superior and Excellent ratings in preliminary rounds were as follows: Levi King – prose; Krystle Conyers – prose; David DeRueda – prose; Becca Stephenson – poetry; Savannah Reynolds – poetry; Erin Ashcraft – storytelling; Salonica Hunter – storytelling; and Mary Kate Jones – original oratory.
In all forensics tournaments, students from all sizes of schools compete against each other. MHS students were standing on the stage with students from Bentonville, Fayetteville, Cabot, Little Rock, and so many other schools (most are 6A and 7A).
“We are grateful for the support displayed by Monticello’s administration and teachers for this co-curricular competition; we couldn’t have this success without them. We appreciate everyone’s encouragement,” said Forensics Coach Debbie Ashcraft. The team is coached by Ashcraft and Christy Armbrust.
