MHS Forensics Team
January 22nd, 2014 by Monticello SchoolsRecently, 11 MHS forensics team members competed at the Cabot Classic Forensics Tournament where there were approximately 1,000 total entries.
Becca Stephenson advanced to finals and earned 3rd Place in Prose Interpretation. Salonica Hunter earned a finalist medal in Storytelling. Stephenson also advanced to semi-finals in Poetry Interpretation.
In order to advance to semi-finals, contestants had to place either 1st or 2nd in the preliminary rounds. The following earned 3rd place in prelim’s: MaryKate Jones / Zach Cason – Duet Acting (excellent); Erin Ashcraft – Poetry (superior); and Savannah Reynolds – Poetry (superior).
“It’s easy to see how competitive this tournament was when you have students earning superior and excellent rankings but not breaking out of the prelim rounds,” said MHS Forensics Coach Debbie Ashcraft.
Twenty-seven schools brought over 57 slates (teams) of performers. This is one of largest, if not the single largest, tournaments in the state.
Other team members earned Excellent performance ratings in preliminary rounds: Mime: Zach Cason / MaryKate Jones / Maggie Brown; Storytelling: Erin Ashcraft; Solo Acting: Savannah Reynolds; Poetry: Caitlyn Bradley; and Duet Acting: Jordan Jackson / Lyrics Thompson.
The next tournament is at North Little Rock High School on Jan. 31-Feb. 1. This tournament was originally scheduled in December but was cancelled due to bad weather.
