MHS Forensic Team Earns Fifth 1st Place Sweepstakes Award
March 1st, 2013 by Monticello SchoolsThe MHS Forensic team travelled to Searcy High School where they earned their fifth 1st Place Sweepstake award this year. Twenty-five entries earned awards, and 35 of these entries are now qualified to compete at the Tournament of Champions in April.
Twenty-two entries advanced into the final rounds: International Public Debate: Elizabeth Wilson (1st) and Becca Stephenson (2nd); Extemporaneous Speaking: Hannah James and Elizabeth Wilson; Prose Interpretation: David deRueda (1st), Jessica Craven (2nd) and Becca Stephenson; Duet Acting: Rian Meeks / Joseph James and L J Leslie / Jessica Craven; Storytelling: Becca Stephenson; Mime: MaryKate Jones / Zach Cason / Savannah Reynolds (3rd) and Melodie Sandlin; Improvised Duet Acting: Rian Meeks / Joseph James (2nd) and Erin Ashcraft / MaryKate Jones (3rd); Poetry Interpretation: David deRueda (1st), MaryKate Jones (3rd), and Elizabeth Wilson; Solo Acting: Savannah Reynolds (2nd); Humorous Interpretation: Savannah Reynolds (2nd); Original Oratory: Elizabeth Wilson, Kelly Murphy, and Hannah James.
Debate speaker awards were given to Becca Stephenson (1st), Elizabeth Wilson (2nd), and N’Shyka Shelton (5th).
Others who advanced to semi-final rounds were as follows: International Public Debate: N’Shyka Shelton; Prose interpretation: Erin Ashcraft; Duet Acting: Hannah James / Melodie Sandlin, Chloe Fenison / Janea Barnhill, and MaryKate Jones / Zach Cason; Improvised Duet Acting: Jasmin Miller / Jasmine Dallas; Poetry Interpretation: Erin Ashcraft; Solo Acting: Jessica Craven and Alex Borchardt; Humorous Interpretation: Zach Cason
Other team members who contributed to the sweepstake award were Frederica Davidson (extemp speaking), Alex Borchardt (solo acting), Amanda Shindelar (solo acting), Jaliah Jordan (prose), Tara Majors (duet acting and improv), Walter Hayes (improv), Julia Craig (debate and improv), Dillon Todd (improv), Drake Hill (improv), Cheyenne Wilkerson (debate), Jordan Jackson (solo acting), Kaylee Box (poetry), Zaire Husband (poetry and improv), and Marty Andrews (solo acting).
New National Forensic League Members NFL Members earn advanced degree status
After competing in another forensic tournament, 5 more Monticello High School students have earned enough points to qualify for membership into the National Forensci League. They join the other 23 current members.
The students are Frederica Davidson, Drake Hill, Rian Meeks, Joseph James, and Jasmine Dallas. These students competed in a variety of competitions: debate, storytelling, poetry, prose, duet acting, mime, and public speaking. They earned points based on their rankings each time they perform.
The following NFL members have earned advanced degrees: Jessica Craven (Honor), David deRueda (Honor), Mary Kathryn Jones (Excellence), Savannah Reynolds (Excellence), Melodie Sandlin (Honor), Rebecca Stephenson (Excellence), and Elizabeth Wilson (Honor). The degrees of membership begin at Merit status (25 points) and then increase at varying point levels: Honor (75), Excellence (175), Distinction (250), Special Distinction (500) and other degrees advancing up to Premiere Distinction (1,500).
