Meth Arrest – “Scratching a “3” into your Mustang does not make you drive like Dale Earnhardt.”

May 22nd, 2018 by

A1037E96-745E-4FDA-B2E8-F156ED4C131B 502CB08D-B90A-4E2E-9C6A-A29EC73C7E54A 43-year-old man was recently arrested after Drug Task Force Agents and a Drew County Narcotics investigator observed suspicious activity at a local business.

Agents contacted Drew County Sheriffs Deputies to locate the vehicle and it was determined the vehicle was without a license plate.

As the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, driven by James Ratliff, age 43, of Dermott, for no tags. Ratliff fled and led law enforcement on roughly a 6 mile chase before wrecking on South Allis Road, where he was apprehended by Drew County Deputies. As he was attempting to get out of the ditch, he swerved around, striking the front of a Drew County sheriffs vehicle with the rear of his Mustang (etchef with a number “3” like Dale Earnhardt during his legendary racing career).

A quantity of methamphetamine was seized and Ratliff was charged with Fleeing and Possession of methamphetamine.

Ratliff’s bond was set at $35,000.

I am a concerned citizen of this community with so much drugs and alcohol abuse. I am completely aware that this type of behavior is every where but it is our duty as citizens to help clean up this community by helping report to authorities of unlaw behavior. We need to flood the city police department with calls of illegal activities and take back our once clean community. I struggle with raising my children in this world where people are constantly breaking the law and are handed with a slap on the wrist punishment. This person put a lot of lives at risk of innocent people and his bail was set at 35,000.00 that is no problem for a person who is dealing drugs to get right back into our community and finish what he started. I would love to see more positive news of our community rather than negative posts. The people of Monticello deserve to see some positivity and joy of our community and what once was a great place to live, shop, enjoy restaurants, and many other attractions that brought people here in the first place! I am asking judges help us by becoming the voice to our legislaters and governors to help change laws to a more harsher punishment for violators and bring back the community that we once had. Thank you!
