The ADFA proposal at least promotes private ownership. When property becomes the property of the MEDC and the City of Monticello – no property taxes are paid. I would hate for the “non-profit” arm of the MEDC retaining any ownership as this is is steadily eroding our property base. If you care to check the Drew County tax roll you would be amazed at the properties owned not only by the MEDC and various other entities associated with them, but also the property owned by the City of Monticello. Until our property base is expanded, we will never be able to rid ourselves of our historically high sales tax. Promote private ownership of property.
