Monticello Dance Academy’s Competition Teams competed at Starpower National Talent Competition this past summer in Branson.
This was a five day event and studios from across the country came to compete!
Each performance is given an adjudication score from the judges. 5 Star is the highest, then it goes to 4 and 3/4, 4 and 1/2, 4 and 1/4 and 4 Stars. There are also a few judges choice awards given out to routines that stood out in the judges’ opinions. There are also overall placements in each age division and levels.
MDA took 37 routines to this competition. We had one routine to score a 5 Star Elite (the highest possible adjudication score only given out in the Advanced level), 16 routines scored 5 Stars, 19 routines scored 4 and 3/4 Stars, and one routine scored 4 and 1/2 stars. We had one routine receive a Judges’ Award for “Super Speed and Rhythms.” 23 of our routines placed 1st in their categories. We also had 18 overall placements!! Two of those were 1st and considered as winning a “national title,” we had three 2nd overall wins, one 3rd overall, two 4th overalls, four 5th overalls, one 6th overall, two 7th overalls, two 8th overalls, and one 9th overall. MDA also had one routine invited to perform their routine again in the Battle of the Stars Finals. Only five routines out of all of the 12-14 age Intermediate groups were chosen for this portion of the competition, and our group Travelin’ Soldier was one of them! They also received a Golden Ticket to be able to perform at the World Dance Championship.
MDA had an amazing season, and have already got started with the next one! These students are under the instruction of Allison Neill (owner/operator of MDA), and instructors Toni Findley and Charlee Carter.
Here are most of the members of last year’s competition team and their national winnings.
