MDA Attends TOP Competition
May 24th, 2019 by SubmittedMDA’s Competition dance team attended the Talent On Parade regional competition in Hot Springs on May 3-5. Routines are scored on an adjudicated system by a panel of 3 judges. The placement levels are Double Diamond, Diamond, Elite, and Top 1st.
After scores are given they are then given a placement in their category, as well as an overall in each age and division. Dancers compete at a Novice, Intermediate, or Competitive Level. There are also Judges’ Awards; this is where the judges award any routine from that block of Competition for something special they felt was captivating within that routine. Talent on Parade has a TOP Star team, the judges choose dancers from each studio for this; there is a Pre-Pro program that is an invite only by the judges, dancers are chosen based off of their performance to attend this week long intensive each summer; and there are Dance Directive scholarships awarded where dancers may attend a day of free classes!
MDA took 35 numbers to this event. Of those routines we received the following adjudication and overall awards:
Double Diamond- 16
Diamond- 18
Elite- 1
Overall placements- 27 (breakdown of those is 1st overall- 4, 2nd- 3, 3rd- 5, 4th- 3, 5th- 2, 6th- 2, 7th- 3, 8th- 1, 9th- 1, 10th- 3)

2 of our soloists competed more than one, and earned a spot in the High Point Line up. Alex Pennington placed 3rd overall in the senior division for the 3rd highest score of her two routines combined, and Addison Stafford placed 4th overall in the Junior division.
9 of our routines were the Category Cup Winner; the highest scoring routine for their category out of all the levels for that block of Competition!!! We received category cups for lyrical, tap, jazz, and the contemporary categories.
