MDA Attends Starpower Regional Competition
March 12th, 2019 by SubmittedMDA’s Competition dance team attended the Starpower regional competition in Little Rock this weekend (March 1-3). Routines are scored on an adjudicated system by a panel of 3 judges. The placement levels are 5 Star Elite (for the Advanced division only), 5 Stars, 4.75 Stars, 4.5 Stars, 4.25 Stars, and 4 Stars. After scores are given they are then given a placement in their category, as well as an overall in each age and division.
MDA took 32 numbers to this event. Of those routines we received the following:
5 Stars- 17
4.75 Stars- 15
1st in the category- 20
Overall placements- 21 (breakdown of those is 1st overall- 5, 2nd- 2, 3rd- 1, 4th- 4, 5th- 1, 6th- 1, 7th- 2, 8th- 2, 9th- 3)
2 of our routines received special awards from the judges: Sidney Ballard’s solo got the “Personality Over Load” and our small group tap Sing got the “Rockin’ Rhythms” award.
2 of our students received a Power Pak scholarship which is an invite only to attend a week long dance intensive. Those 2 students were Chloe Sanders and Olivia Wilson.
2 of our dancers were photogenic winners: 2nd Place- Jensen Harrod
1st Place- McKinzie Adcock
3 of our routines received a Golden Ticket which is an invite only to attend the World Dance Championships in August. Those routines were Better Place, Think, and I’ll Be There.
2 of our routines were named the highest scoring routine for their age and division for the entire competition!!! Those routines were Better Place and Ill Be There.
And one of our routines was named the most Entertaining for their age and level! That routine was Sing!
MDA is owned and operated by Allison Neill. These students are under the instruction of Allison Neill, Toni Findley, and Charlee Carter. There were several guest choreographers for these routines as well.
