December 2nd, 2014 by iPhoneA first appearance hearing was held Monday morning for a 26 year old McGehee man, arrested Saturday for the death of his 33-year-old girlfriend.
Rebekah Singh was reported missing, by her parents, late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, which led the McGehee Police Department to begin a missing persons investigation.
Arkansas State Police investigators joined the case, Friday, along with the Desha County Sheriff’s Department.
It was discovered that her boyfriend, Danny Joe Burchfield, age 26 of McGehee, was the last person to see her alive.
Rebekah Singh’s body was recovered, around 1 am, Saturday, in Bayou Bartholomew, west of McGehee.
Burchfield was arrested, and charged with first-degree murder, as well as abuse of a corpse, for placing her remains in the Bayou.
Testimony by McGehee police investigator Scott Williams, indicates that during his interview, Burchfield confessed to choking and killing Ms. Singh.
Burchfield then led authorities to where he had placed her body in Bayou Bartholomew.
Bond was set at $500,000, by Circuit Judge Don Glover.
Near the end of the hearing, Burchfield began saying, “For the crime I caused…” but was interrupted by Judge Glover, and reminded of his “right to remain silent,” at least until his attorney was present.
