So…. Basicly the counsil trusted Alan Maxwell and Zach Tucker with this project and they completely droped the ball.??? They friviously spent $7,000,000 of our hard earned tax dollars.? That is completely unacceptable. Thank you Mrs. Hudson and Mayor Rodgers for standing up to the other alderman. Joe, Carolyn, Timmy and Claudia SHAME ON YOU!!!
Mayor Rogers was right to ask for an independent engineer to oversee this project. Why are you asking about the specifics of the contract now? Did you read the contract? Did a lawyer for Monticello read the contract? It seems to me its a little late for these questions after you spend 7 million dollars of Monticello’s tax payers money. Tim Chase obviously didn’t read it, he couldn’t answer a straight forward question. Again the city council members took it upon themselves to do something without getting all the facts first. Of you don’t like what the city council is doing you have to get out and VOTE, apparently two thirds of Monticello doesn’t see fit to do such. if you live in the city you have to get out and VOTE THEM OUT. Or accept the consequences
First the City Attorney White Barton did review the contract on behalf of the Monticello. If anyone watched/ paid attention to pervious Council meetings, he discussed the terms of the contract with Council before they approved it. Rogers called an emergency meeting the night of this meeting, with only one day’s notice; and as you saw in the video, Barton was out of town. I say it’s worst practice for the Council or Mayor to act without the presents of the City Attorney; that’s why we ELECT one in the first place.
It looks like from what Meeks mentioned, the process is working. I’m sure the contract, like most projects, require the engineering to be approved by the city before they can break ground. The engineering for “Phase 3” was presented to the city, they rejected the engineering, and now the company is re-engineering the project to meet the city’s requests. The new spec are being presented to the city for approval (or review) a the regular meeting on the 24th.
Obviously this meeting was premature. Thanks leadership for once again creating useless controversy.
First I want to say I do vote every time the polls open. After watching this video coverage several times I don’t understand why you would entrust the engineer that is supporting Siemens’ to also support the City of Monticello. Yes they may have an agreement to do so but that certainly does not mean they will do such since that would be cutting their own throat by going against a company who this engineer will represent long after the project in Monticello is finished. Therefore, whatever Siemens’ want to say about the progress and once the job is completed is exactly what their personal engineer will say. This has been a strange project since it was started with all the unanswered questions. Just as Rogers & Hudson said “Why continue to keep going the way it is?” instead get an engineer with the City of Monticello in their best interest. Mr. Meeks said if we can afford another one, you can pay for one to help the outcome now or you can wait and possibly pay more if you continue with this as it is. “You don’t sue a company and use their lawyer to represent your case.”
