Marty Phillips Honored for Lifetime of Contributions To Gospel Music
March 3rd, 2019 by iPhoneMore than 300 supporters of gospel music attended “Marty Phillips Day,” in Crossett, last Saturday.
The Mayor of Crossett made a proclamation that it was “Marty Phillips Day in Crossett,” our state Senator give him a citation from the State Senate, the two State Representatives who represent the Crossett area jointly gave him a citation from the House of Representatives, and the governor of Arkansas sent Marty a congratulatory letter.
There were more than 300 attendees from AR, MS, AL, GA, FL, NC, LA, TN, MO, OK, and TX here to sing and help Marty celebrate his birthday and his many contributions to gospel music.
Phillips is well known across southeast Arkansas for the decades he dedicated to the Jeffress-Phillips School of Music, and nationally for writing the popular southern gospel song “What a Meeting in the Air.”
