Martin Luther King Jr. Commission’s Ribbon-Cutting with Chamber of Commerce
October 11th, 2022 by Joe BurgessMonday morning, the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission held a ribbon-cutting at the Monticello Area Chamber of Commerce, as they joined the organization to be part of the Monticello community.
One of the groups leaders told us, “It is our goal to invest into the community, show our part as a state agency by leading the way. We also want to encourage local business owners and entrepreneurs who may be inspired by these luncheons that they too may join the Chamber and inspire change, cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit in Drew County. We want to see more of collaborations, more partnerships to bring jobs, opportunities, access to resources to promote growth within the city and the Delta.
The mission of the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission a division of the Arkansas department of education is to promote and preserve the life and legacy of Dr. King in our state and promote the principals of non-violence and equality among all citizens.
Our community outreach projects are designed to promote education, an appreciation for history and to encourage youth to engage in positive leadership development and roles within their communities. Our first partnership with the city of Monticello took place this summer, the 2022 Unity in the Community festival which featured community service and arts presentations.”
