Man Charged with Rape of a 5-year-old

February 3rd, 2010 by

According to Sheriff Mark Gober, the Drew County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children division on January 27, after being advised by the Crisis Hotline of a reported rape of a 5-year-old female by a 30-year-old male that occurred sometime between January 25 and 26.

Drew County and State Police investigators interviewed the parents and the child regarding the circumstances around the rape.

After lengthy interviews and evidence gathered, Drew County Sheriff’s Department arrested and placed into custody Thomas Allen Adams.  Adams is being held in the Drew County Detention Facility and has been formally charged by the prosecuting attorney on February 2 with one count of rape.

Adams’ bond was set at $50,000.

  1. monticello resident says:

Capitol punishment, and make it speedy.

  2. Toni says:

How can they set this mans bond at 50,000!!! This is sick and disgusting !!!! This is wrong on so many levels …… and this is what is wrong with our society today give em a chance to get out and do it again !!!!!

  3. Erin says:

$50,000 is not enough. There should be NO bond or bail that can be posted.

  4. Kenneth says:

I think this is so tragic that this little girl had to go through anything like this. This man should never be able to get out and walk the streets ever in his life. I have a best friend that is in jail now for raping a 13 year old and I feel the same about him too. That is something you just don’t do to kids. Do you not know that is something that little girl will carry around with her for the rest of her life. Just think it that would have been your little girl…….May GOD forgive me now but if it had been my little girl I would be in jail because that man would never have made it to the jail to start with.

  5. Family friend says:

The family has requested he be sent to a mental facility. He stopped taking his medication several months ago. Something inside him snapped. The family needs our prayers. His psychiatrist should be held responsible along with his therapist. Most likely he will not be foud competant to stand trial. The $50,000 may as well be 50 million. He is already on disability with a payee. Noone will help him with bail and he DOES NOT have it. The family is concentrating on healing. Talk like this does not heal. The family has turned this over to God. We all need to do the same and honor this family’s wishes!

  6. Stacey Owens says:

Prayers for the little girl! And pray for the man charged as well. But I feel that 50,000 is not enough for the bond!

  7. Tony says:

I am assuming he is guilty before his trial as are most of the readers and comments. If this is fact, then I pray our Judicial system will perform its’ duties and place this animal in prison for the rest of his life. The prison system then needs to make sure he is placed in a cell with “Bubba”, the meanest, vile prisoner already serving their sentence. I think the rest can go without saying.

If he is innocent, then I pray he has a good lawyer. Either way, I pray for the girl….God please give your healing power to her for the rest of her life. I also agree $50,000 bond was too low and he should not be allowed to return to society and also for his own protection until the conclusion of the trial.

  8. Concerned Citizen says:

My thoughts and prayers go out to this little girl and her family. It is beyond me how anyone can hurt a child. I hope the justice systems puts this man away for a long time. Forever wouldn’t be long enough for him. Yet, he will be on the streets again. These are the kind of people the police should be after yet.. they spend all their time going after non-violent offenders. Lets get and keep these kind of creeps off our streets then worry about other things. We have sex offenders walking our streets everyday and we don’t even know it. Heck, I just found out that I gave one a ride to work and didn’t even know it. The thought now scares me to death.

  9. Renee says:

My heart goes out to this little girl and her family. Bail? Why would our judicial system even allow bail for this? Crimes like this make some of us wish for a return of the old days..such as public hangings!

  10. CLARA CATER says:

This makes me sick how can men do this to children, a child is a gift from God, and we as parents have a tough job keeping our children safe from all the sickos in this world. I think if some one is sick enough to hurt a child, then put them in jail and throw away the key so they will never have another chance to hurt another child.

  11. Erica says:

I can not even process why anyone wants to hurt kids like this. This childs life and innocence has been taken from her. MY GOD she only 5 years old. $50,000 is not enough. No amout of money or time in jail will ever be enough for what he did to this innocence child. May GOD take this in his hands.

  12. KG says:

I agree with capital punishment for this…. But first….. let this guy live in prison, in general population for a while, with clothing that identifies him as a child rapist. Let him get a taste of his own medicene.

I have a daughter that age and I also agree with Kenneth. I would probably do time for the “cruel and unusual punishment” I would inflict if I caught this guy after having found such had been done my daughter.

We are not doing enough as a society to deter this type of crime. Let’s get creative.

  13. L T Jones says:

    cut his n@#s off

  14. Sally Berry says:

    Sad…Sad…Sad

  15. Sheena says:

They should call a town meeting at the square and hang him. As far as the little girl I’m sorry she had to through this tragic event and my prayers go out to her.

  16. MARY says:

I DO AGREE WITH L T JONES, IF THEY WOULD DO THAT, IT WILL BE LESS OF IT!!!!!!!

  17. I hate it for all involved says:

Innocent or guilty, there is no such thing as a fair trial with this charge. What a shame that people are so quick to judge what they nothing about. God forgive us for putting ourselves in your shoes.

  18. I remember when people were innocent until proven beyond a reasonable doubt,to be guilty. With the system as screwed as it is now, with corruption on every level we should probably wait till the “Jury Speaks” and then take a rope and help him find his way to “Big Bubba”.He probably won’t last a year in custody anyway, even convicts have a system of ethics and justice, and pedophiles and child molesters are way DOWN the pecking pole.I just can’t believe anyone would want to hold the therapist and shrink responsible, since they gave him over to the family to care for.Blame them!

  19. molestation victim says:

I am a victim of child molestion when I was young. I am 56yrs old now and it still haunts me. He was my stepfather. My youngest brother did not know about it until a couple of years ago.His father is now dead. When he found out he said he was glad he was dead because he would of killed him his self. Child molestation or rape does not effect only the child. It effects the whole family. My heart and prayers goes out to this family. My justice be served.

  20. ree says:

His mental condition is no excuse. He should have stayed on his meds and I am sure he knew he was doing something wrong.I agree with the public hanging thing.Than these people will think long and hard before they commit crimes. They can do what they want now and get free room and board.

  21. angel says:

i think that this man needs help and no one is to blame but him. his is an adult the child was 5. therapy or not this was wrong. God has his hands on this and God will handle it. my heart breaks for the lil girl. poor baby. now her and her family will have to live with this the rest of their lives. as for him well…… again, no one to blame but him. he should be held accountable for his own actions.

  22. Kristina says:

The thought of this happening to a five year old girl regardless of the circumstances makes me ill. Prayers for the little girl and her family. People who commit crimes against children should never be allowed in the general public ever again.

  23. Dragonheart says:

It’s unfortunate that I can’t write what I really want because the things I would do to any person who hurt children is too graphic and really sadistic. I think it is sick that they bonded him out on 50,000. It’s just wrong. A person caught with drugs get thrown in jail on hundreds of thousands of dollars bond and this piece of crap gets off for that small amount. Don’t get me wrong, drugs are bad, I am using that as an example. I hope one day that this child and her family heal and life can go on for them. They will be in my thoughts. It’s too bad I don’t live there to be on the jury.

Note: He has not bonded out of jail, at this time. Joe B.

  24. Once was friend says:

I knew this guy who has committed this crime, and it is extreamly trajic. Many of you jump to conclusions as soon as somthing is posted on this sight as if it were a text out of the bible. I am not saying that you all are wrong cause i myself feel the same way as all of you. Apart of me keeps hoping that he didnt do this. If you knew him, he would be the last person in this world you would expect to do somthing like this. Although he was off of his meds, I agree that he knew what he was doing, and should be sent to prison for life. Even though he does have mental problems doesnt mean that he will not stand trial and go to the nut house. If this was true then the prisons would be empty and the loony bins would be full. About the bail issue all of you are complaining about. They could have set it to $1.00 and still noone would bail him out, not even himself. Noone in there right minds will or ever would bail out a child molester.

  25. friend of lil girl says:

wishing everyone would pray for all that are involved. this is difficult on everyone. who are we to judge. God has his hands on the girl’s family and especially her. this could have been worse. tho it doesnt get much worse than that. this trajedy has brought a lot of people closer to God. let this be a lesson that no one is better than the other and it could happen to anyone. Count your many blessings and hold your babies tight. be thankful for what you have. and please for heavens sake, let this family find some peace.

  26. ree says:

To once a friend,I do know this man and I know exactly what kind of person he is.He is not nice at all.

  27. Concerned Citizen says:

To Ree, I also know Tommy and he “was” a very nice person. He would have given anyone the shirt off his back, if they needed it. I admit I’ve only known him for roughly 4 or 5 years but, during that time I would have NEVER thought he would have done something like this. If someone would have told me that a week prior to this happening that the “Tommy” I knew was going to do something like this I would have not believed them. My heart hurts for this little angel and her family. But, my heart also is broken that someone that I once trusted, could have done something like this. If all the facts come out and it is deemed true he did do this heinous crime. Then, Tommy needs to pay heavily for his crime. If, he didn’t let him find inner peace. I’ll wait to condemn him until after all the facts are out!

  28. ree says:

Concerned, you obviously don’t know everything about him.

  29. Concerned Citizen says:

Ree, you may be right. I can only speak of the Tommy I “knew” and was around. It just goes to show that we NEVER really know anyone. We only know the person “they” allow us to know.

  30. once his best friend says:

Tommy was once my best friend there is no excuse for his actions I think he should pay for the crime. A part of me still hopes he did not do this, but if he did he will pay as he burns at the gates of hell. The Tommy that I now would have ever done this. Yes, he was on meds for his mental state.. I hope God is with the little girl and her family

  31. candy says:

this man gets out on just a 50,000.00 bond on such a terrible and sick thing he did to this little girl he should not be allowed to even have a bail that little girl will have nightmares for the rest of her life they should lock him up and never let him out my prayers are with the little girl and her family

  32. 101898 says:

Sometimes a person will act out a situation that may have actually happened to themselves. THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE THE CRIME! Like many have already said, the victim is scarred for life and in many ways. A lot of times if the victim is not given proper attention for the progress of healing, these things offenses sometimes repeat because of the unresolved anger in the person and they become an “unwilling” perpetrator. In other words they don’t want to do the action but some other personality takes over and they repeat exactly as it happened to them at the scene of the original crime. This becomes a mental illness. Children who have been subject to this crime many times will be asked to use dolls to enact the crime when under psychiatric treatment. In a way this is what is happening for the perpetrator when the crime takes place, especially when the perpetrator was a victim multiple times in their own life as a child. This is only an explanation of what may have happened. My heart goes out to all those involved and hurting. May they all find Jesus as their saving Grace.
