Lowering of Lake Level Completed
October 12th, 2017 by iPhone
Recently, the City Council approved lowering the level of Lake Monticello (to allow for levee repair), instead of totally draining the lake, as requested by AG&F (in an effort to kill and restart the lake).
At the end of August, the valve was opened and water began to drain at an estimated rate of 50,000 gallon/minute through a 4 foot spillway underneath the levee.
Tuesday, morning, that valve closed, stopping the draining of the lake at around the 8 foot below its previous “full” level.
Lake Monticello had approximately 20 acres of surface.
These photos were taken as interim fire chief Eric Chisom and city superintendent L.M.Wood went out on the lake to close the valve.
