Tonya K. Loveless of Monticello has announced her candidacy for re-election to the office of Drew County Tax Collector in the upcoming Democratic primary election.
Loveless is currently serving her first term as collector, after having been elected to the office in 2012 following passage of a law that made the collector’s office a separate entity from the sheriff’s office. Prior to that, Loveless served as executive collector for eight years.
She is a member of the Association of Arkansas Counties and the Arkansas Collectors’ Association, where she has obtained more than 60 hours of continuing education. During the past year, Loveless attended three different seminars sponsored by the collectors’ organization in order to remain current on any changes to state law regarding the operation of her office. Loveless’ office collected more than $7.7 million dollars in current taxes, as well as nearly $700,000 in delinquent taxes, for the 2012 tax year. She noted that this was an increase of almost $250,000 in tax revenues over the 2011 tax year collections.
Loveless is the daughter of Van and Karen Brown of the Valley Community. She is the proud mother of three sons, Brandon, Ashton and Benjamin; and three grandchildren, Madison, Easton and Emerson.
“I want to say ‘thank you’ to all the wonderful family and friends who gave me so much support to run and become elected to this office,” Loveless said. “It has been a true honor to serve as the first elected collector for Drew County, and I ask for your continued support and vote in the upcoming election. I would love to have the opportunity to continue to excel at this position and work for the taxpayers of Drew County.”
