Local Physical Therapist Park Tipton Awarded Orthopaedic Specialist Certification
June 28th, 2017 by SubmittedPark Tipton, PT, DPT, was awarded the professional designation of board-certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Tipton is a physical therapist at South Arkansas Rehabilitation in Monticello.
Specialist certification formally recognizes physical therapists who have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skills in a specific area of physical therapist practice. To obtain board certification, candidates must successfully complete a rigorous examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapist practice. Tipton joins only 24 other physical therapists in Arkansas who have previously achieved the Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) designation. Physical therapists who have achieved the OCS status are considered experts in the rehabilitation of orthopaedic injuries and conditions.
According to Nat Grubbs, PT, OCS, the owner of South Arkansas Rehabilitation, “I know that I speak for all of Park’s co-workers here, as well as his current and former patients, when I extend congratulations to Park for having been awarded one of the highest designations available in our profession. Board-certified specialization demonstrates Park’s sincere commitment to pursuing an advanced level of skill and knowledge that will help him to best serve his patients with orthopaedic issues and impairments.”
Tipton joins Grubbs on the South Arkansas Rehabilitation staff as an orthopaedic clinical specialist, as well as Dr. L. R. Tyson, who is one of only eight board-certified clinical specialists in sports physical therapy in Arkansas. Adds Grubbs, “There are now a total of 33 physical therapists in the entire state of Arkansas who are board-certified clinical specialists in either sports or orthopaedic physical therapy, and we have three of those 33 working at South Arkansas Rehab in Monticello!”
ABPTS was established by APTA as the governing body that awards certification to physical therapists who meet approved requirements. ABPTS oversees the physical therapy clinical specialist certification and maintenance of specialist certification programs and awards certificates to physical therapists meeting approved requirements.

Congrats to Park and South Arkansas Rehabilitation. Isn’t it wonderful that we have such a great facility and such great doctors right here in our hometown!
Proud of you Bro.
Congratulations Park. I am so proud for you that you have received special recognition for your skills in your field of expertise.
I first met Park in 2012 when I needed therapy for hand surgery. I was impressed by his empathy & genuine desire to help me. I tried to do all the exercises he gave me & I even added one to the list that made them all easier. (If you’ve ever been shown how to do the “spider” after hand surgery, I invented that one.) Park also nursed me thru a shoulder injury & knee surgery. Park’s ability to diagnose impairments & set up a treatment for them is amazing, but I think his most outstanding attribute is that he genuinely cares for his patients & wants to help them overcome their disabilities.
Park is a awesome therapist he pulled me through my physical problems and helped me get diagnosis on things that were a problem for 13 years he is a blessing to me and i appreciate him and southeast rehab for allowing me to come there for treatment
Congratulations Park! As your sixth grade teacher at St Mary’s, I always knew you were going to do great things in your life. You had
the knowledge and determination even back then. May God bless you as you continue down your journey in life.
