Local Man Sentenced to ADC for Hunting Theft
July 19th, 2022 by Joe BurgessIn a recent Ashley County Circuit Court plea bargain, Marcus Stanley accepted an offer of 3 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, with 3 additional years suspended imposition of sentence.
On December 30, of last year, law enforcement officers received a phone call reporting a subject walking into a home in Crossett, carrying a backpack containing some of the caller’s items, that had been stolen. The caller tried to make contact with the subject, but he ran inside of his home.
Ashley County Deputies then arrived and observed Crossett officers entering the residence with Marcus Stanley. Stanley had a criminal history of prior theft, and was a parolee at the time.
Stanley was retrieving many of the stolen items inside the home and putting them in the bed of the property owners vehicle.
Stolen items included a ladder type deerstand, 2 carpet rugs, a deer feeder, 2 office chairs, and game cameras.
The victim told deputies that a game camera, 2 buddy heaters, and other items were not included.
Stanley said that he hid hidden some items in another location nearby, which were then retrieved and given to deputies.
Stanley was transported to the Ashley County Jail, and charged with breaking & entering and theft of property.
The plea bargain is based on the facts involved in this trial, along with his prior convictions.
