August 28th, 2013 by Joe BurgessA Drew County man’s ongoing legal battles took a downturn, Tuesday, when District Judge Luevonda Ross sentenced him to 30 days in jail, for phone calls and FaceBook posts, harrassing his ex-wife, her attorney, and her pastor.
Jim A. Hall was found guilty on 3 counts of harassment and harrasing communitcations, following the playing of around a dozen voice mails and even more FaceBook posts read.
The hearing, with 5 plaintiffs took just under 3 hours, and stemmed from a divorce case earlier this year, and conspiracy allegations that Hall had made against the other parties, regarding his children.
In one voicemail played, Hall said, “This is going to be the biggest public relations disaster (you) have ever known.”
Hall’s attorney, Omar Greene of Littlr Rock, explained to the court, “FaceBook is where people post all kind of crazy stuff, like the President is not an American,”
Hall was found not guilty of his “boycott effort” of his ex-wife’s father’s business. As his lawyer said, “It’s his 1st amendment right. It doesn’t matter if its true or not since the slander clause has been changed.” The complaint by another former friend was also dropped.
Hall was sentenced to 30 days in jail, to run concurrently, and to pay a fine of $1,210.
His attorney told MLive that Hall intends to qppeal the verdict to Circuit Court, based on his first amendment principals.
Hall earlier filed exploratory papers with the County Clerk, in consideration of entering the election for Drew County Sheriff.
