Local Man Arrested For Sneaking Smokes To Friend (in the Courtroom Jail Cell) / File Photo
July 17th, 2018 by iPhoneDuring a Circuit Court session in June, a local man went to see his friend’s court hearing, at the Drew County Courthouse.
Before the day was over, he was arrested and taken to jail, with his friend.
Tajah Hicks, age 23 of Monticello, was seen by Sheriff Mark Gober and a deputy (over the courthouse video security surveillance system) sliding a cigar package under the courtroom holding cell door, where jail inmates are kept, awaiting their court hearings in front of the judge.
The package, labeled Swisher Sweets, and the cigar it contained, were recovered.
Hicks was arrested and charged with furnishing prohibited articles to inmates. He was later released on bond.
Approximately a week later, Hicks was again arrested, this time charged with possession with intent to deliver, tampering with evidence, driving with suspended license, no proof of vehicle insurance. Hey currently remains in jail on a $50,000 bond, on those charges.
