Local Funeral Home Cited by State Board
February 21st, 2012 by Joe BurgessAccording to the Arkansas state board of embalmers and funeral home directors, Christian Brothers Funeral Home, of Monticello, reportedly violated state policy in the case of a July, 2011 funeral.
Larry Brown is the registered manager and a funeral director for Christian Brothers. Robbiezine Owens is also a licensed funeral director, there. Michael Jones is owner of Christian Brothes , and is an apprentice funeral director.
During the case before the board, Brown violated state standards, by allowing Jones to meet with family members to make arrangements and view caskets. Jones also was found to be in violation, for holding the meeting, without a licensed fueral director present.
The board fined and placed Brown on probation for one year, and also fined Jones.
When interviewed, Jones, a licensed apprentice funeral director for several months, told MonticelloLive that this case is being appealed, so further comments can’t be made at this time.
Orlando Jones, another licensed apprentice funeral director, is also a part of the daily operation at Christian Borthers.

There will be no appeal in this matter. This experience can serve as an example to all individuals venturing into a new business. Regardless of the intent, it is imperative that business owners know “ALL” the laws pertaining to their perspective business. It should be taken for granted that the laws are there to protect all parties involved: the clients, business and especially the owners. This experience has motivated me, more than ever, along with my business associates, to commit to providing the best quality service available in the funeral business for the entire Southeast Arkansas region.
I’m sorry that this happened to the Jones family who are very nice people. But I guess it is like he says, we must know all the laws pertaining to our business. However, I don’t think they should have been fined for merely showing caskets and making funeral arrangements. Seems a warning would have sufficed.
