Local Cub Scouts Compete in Cardboard Boat Competition
May 22nd, 2014 by iPhoneCub Scouts from Monticello Pack 69 competed in a cardboard boat race at Camp DeSoto in El Dorado on Saturday May 3rd. The Monticello Pack entered five boats in the race each built using cardboard, glue, and tape only.
The cub scouts along with their parents built and decorated the boats which were then raced on the lake at Camp DeSoto during the recent regional spring cub scout campout.
The competition included scouts from all over the Desoto council which encompasses most of South Arkansas and portions of North Louisiana.
Ely Berryman and Cole Hawkins took first place in the “Guppy” division while Johnny McClendon and Colton Bittle placed 3rd also in the “Guppy” division of two-person boats.
All five boats from Monticello performed well in the 14 boat race – each navigating the 200 yard course multiple times without sinking.
