Limbs, Leaves, Twigs & Grass – City Re-opens Compost Facility
July 16th, 2013 by iPhoneThe City of Monticello has re-opened the composting facility and is accepting all yard waste.
The material must be taken to the Transfer Station at 1466 Old Warren Road and checked in with the supervisor before dumping.
Items of a large diameter cannot be accepted such as stumps or large limbs.
The hours of operation will be Monday thru Friday from 7 am until 4 pm and the first and third Saturday from 8 am until 4 pm.
Leaves, grass, pine straw, shrubbery clippings and limbs under 10” in diameter will be accepted. Limbs over 10” in diameter must go to the Drew County Landfill. All compost material must be brought to the Transfer Station located at 1466 Old Warren Road.
Procedures for disposing of compost material:
1. Must stop at Transfer Station before disposal
2. Bags must be emptied at the compost site and then the bags disposed of at the transfer station compactor
3. Limbs must be in a separate pile from other items
4. Absolutely no household trash is allowed at the compost pad
5. A record of license numbers will be kept in case anything is dumped at the site other than allowed material

I’ll start hauling yard waste down there just as soon as I buy a truck. Remember when the city would pick that stuff up? Also, when they’d pick up garbage twice a week? They quit doing all that, but I don’t seem to have started getting lower bills.
