Legisltive Update
February 4th, 2015 by Joe BurgessHouse members have now filed over 220 bills and the filings continue as we enter our 4th week of the Regular Session.
Members overwhelming approved 6 bills on the House floor today. Among those is a bill that would prohibit a doctor from prescribing abortion inducing medication via telemedicine. HB1076 requires a physician be in the room when a patient takes the first round of medication. It also requires the physician to see the patient for a follow up visit weeks in the weeks after.
The House also passed a bill known as “Andi’s law”. The bill is named in memory of the daughter of the bill’s sponsor Rep. Rebecca Petty. Andi’s law allow victims’ families to witness the execution of the person convicted of killing their loved one. Currently families are allowed to witness the proceeding via closed circuit television in a separate room.
Also heading to the Senate is a bill that would allow counties to transfer property to a municipality and legislation giving the Ethics commission the authority to issue advisory opinions concerning Amendment 94. This is the amendment approved by voters in November which limits gifts from lobbyists and makes changes to term limits for legislators.
