Landfill Re-opens Today
January 19th, 2016 by iPhoneAccording to Judge Robert Akin, last Monday, our Class IV landfill appeared to be at capacity. After re-evaluating it on Tuesday with engineers, we have found two more cells that we can use. Those cells should last us three to four months, and by that time, we should have the next generation of our landfill open.
It is located due east of the existing landfill, and is available to us because of the foresight of the previous county judge and some previous and current quorum court members who opted to purchase the property adjacent to the facility we are now using. Because of their wise planning, we won’t have to move our office, and we will be able to build more roads and carry on in the same area for the next 25-30 years.
The landfill will remain closed for the remainder of this week and will reopen on Tuesday, January 19. The courthouse and the landfill will both be closed Monday, January 18, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Monday’s trash routes will be picked up Tuesday and all other days will run normally.
