Lake Monticello Levee Update from Coty Council Meeting – Video
June 30th, 2020 by Joe Burgess
After a brief apology to a local surveyor, Mayor Chase confirmed that the survey of lake Monticello has been completed and the lake lever project engineer would “have a plan, soon” and move into the bidding process.
At a recent City Council meeting, Lake Monticello’s levee was briefly discussed.
The council was told, at this point, everyone was waiting on the surveyor to complete that portion of the process, which had been months since they heard from him. His name was not mentioned, during the meeting. (He is not from Southeast Arkansas.)
MLive contacted City Hall, got his name, and called him, the next week.
After speaking briefly with him, we were told the survey report was almost complete and would be delivered to his project contact, with in the next few days. It seems he was not told that this project was “a rush project”.
Hopefully, with that update to the engineer, the mayor will be able to provide a more thorough update at tonight‘s City Council meeting.

It’s a shame how this has been handled.
Should have been the Mayor instead of Joe making the call.
There’s a lot of people who was looking forward to having a place close by to go fishing after retiring. Some of us can’t afford to drive a long way to fish.
Lets get this thing going everybody.
Call the Mayor and let her know it’s important to you.
I may not be from Monticello but, Monticello has been like another home to me over the past 40 years. It has been depressing to go look at the lake because we can’t fish or swim there. Please get the lake back to normal.
