Lake Monticello Lake Bed Fire Caused by SUV Setting Tall Grass on Fire, Vehicle Burns
March 7th, 2022 by Joe Burgess
Just before 3 PM, Sunday afternoon, Drew County Deputies and the Monticello Fire Department were notified of a vehicle fire, in the lakebed of Lake Monticello.
Although signs clearly read “no vehicles”, the SUV was driving around the lake bed, and its exhaust system caught the tall grass on fire, destroying the vehicle and spreading flames across a large area of the grassy land, inside of the lake levees.
MFD, Clear Creek Fire Department, Drew and Lincoln County units of the Arkansas Forestry Commission, AG&F, along with Drew County Deputies and OEM responded.
The fire was contained before 6 PM.
