Lake Levee Update – Dirt Work Should be Completed This Week, Weather Permitting
July 6th, 2021 by Joe BurgessThe Lake Monticello Levee reconstruction project is nearing completion.
Late last week we spoke with the foreman over the project, who told us that weather permitting, dirt work will be completed this week.
The overall process consisted of removing the soft surface material that was under the levee, and replacing it with clay that had been tested for stability.
The workers then replaced the roadbed material to cover the new underlying base.
After the dirt work is completed, the Game and Fish Commission will continue the process of installing fish habitats, and the spillway should be re-opened in the near future, allowing the lake to refill.

If this doesn’t work it might as well be turned into a place to fly kites
This makes me so happy. I hope this will make the lake the source of pride and fun that we’ve ben waiting for so long.
I think several have make walking trails out of the dry bed, so, if this doesn’t work hopefully we can still get some use out of it
Thank you
